Just Small Change

Growing livelihoods, overcoming poverty, one small step at a time.

'Overcoming poverty is not an act of charity, it is an act of justice'*

Our mission:

To enable the very poor in developing countries to build their own pathway out of poverty.

Our work:

Working through partner organisations in developing countries, we work to improve the livelihoods of those in vulnerable rural and urban communities.

We work to enable the very poor to build a pathway out of poverty, step by step.

Through projects which improve health and strengthen  livelihoods, we aim to unlock the personal and economic potential of the poorest communities, offering the opportunity to achieve a life free from poverty, with dignity and purpose.

As Christians, we are responding to Christ’s call to love and serve the poor. Our projects are available to the very poor in the communities where we work, regardless of race, faith, ethnicity or gender.

Empowerment - our projects strengthen families' economic resilience, building skills and self-confidence, enabling people to take control of their own lives and futures.

Respect and inclusivity- our projects respond to requests from local communities and from local government. We value, welcome, respect and meet people where they are, listening  to their needs in order to enable access to opportunities and resources.

Partnership - overseas, we partner with local organisations who are experts in their fields and are already closely involved with local communities. This ensures your donation is used as effectively as possible, and has maximum impact in changing lives for the better.

Sustainability - we help communities establish initiatives which will start to provide for their current needs while also creating long term provision and self sufficiency.

Accountability -  our close links with local partners allows us to provide direct feedback to our UK donors on the progress of our projects

Transparency - all work in the UK is done by volunteers. This keeps our costs extremely low, ensuring your donation has maximum impact. All your donations, including any gift aid received, is sent overseas to fund our projects.

 OUR PATRON

Bishop Terence Drainey, Bishop of Middlesbrough, is our Patron. Bishop Drainey spent six years working in Kisumu, Kenya, where one of our project has been based, and fully understands the challenges faced by the poor in sub-Saharan Africa. Here is his comment on Just Small Change:

'Here is an organisation which can help at grassroots level and which can turn one’s kind and good intentions into concrete and practical reality...I encourage you to support Just Small Change in whatever way you can, because with the help of this organisation, you can make such a difference.'

You can read the rest of his message here

As well as being a patron of Just Small Change, and Bishop of Middlesbrough, Bishop Drainey is the Chair of Caritas Social Action Network which develops the Catholic Church’s social action in England and Wales.
